Momo the Monster

from Fun Guy by Scott Cooper

/

about

Another old tune of mine that I finally recorded is “Momo the Monster.” I made a couple videos of this song during the Covid lockdown and Stackabones recorded a loose version in the studio a long time ago, but this is the first real and proper recording and first official release. Momo the Monster is a real legend in Missouri, their version of Bigfoot, and was even the namesake of a ride at Six Flags of Mid-America. I wrote all the music (with a subtle nod to the Radiators) and all the lyrics but my late pal from Stackabones Jim Brighton added some lines that were too good to pass up so he gets co-writer credit. Since it’s about Missouri, I enlisted a few of St. Louis’ finest to play on it including Dark Star Orchestra drummers Dino English and Rob Koritz. While we’re at it, let's get DSO guitarist Jeff Mattson to take the guitar solos!

lyrics

Have you seen Momo the Monster
Have you heard of his tale
Some believe that he’s still living
Somewhere in the Ozarks hills
Six foot nine tall dark and hairy
Left no trace but footprints in the snow
So if you see Momo the Monster
Won’t you tell him I said hello

Did you know Momo had parents
By the name of McCoy
Mama told him not marry
Not to have no baby boy
Kin folk blood a shame to his family
He just a freak no monster at all
So if you see Momo the Monster
Won’t you tell him I said hello

So if you see Momo the Monster
Call him over for a beer
He might not know what your saying
But you need not have no fear
Never actually hurt anybody
Spooked my dog I heard a miller say
So if you see Momo the Monster
Take my word he’s OK

Oh no here comes Momo ...
